There’s nothing quite like staring down an endangered black rhino at close range. Except perhaps staring down a pride of African lions at even closer range. At night. For those who were still unfazed, a dip in the frigid waters of the Atlantic alongside a great white shark did the trick and got the adrenaline coursing.

We kick off the week atop Cape Town’s Table Mountain with a toast to the convergence of culture and adventure that awaits our group in the heart of Southern Africa. From the cosmopolitan vibes of Cape Town to the storied vineyards of Stellenbosch, be prepared for a luxurious taste (literally) of this incredible region.

We travel by private helicopter to the tiny hamlet of Gansbaai, for an opportunity to dive with great white sharks. A private jet then takes us to Singita’s stunning Pamushana Lodge, located on the 130,000-acre Malilangwe Wildlife Reserve in Zimbabwe. There, enjoy private plunge pools and the service of personal butlers who treat us to daily high tea and exotic bush dinners. An entire team of dedicated guides and trackers are always on hand to lead us into the bush to search out the famed Big Five, either by boat, on foot, or in a specially designed game vehicle. It’s not long before we’ll have seen black rhinos, cheetahs, lions, elephants, giraffes, and more types of antelopes than you can imagine, all in one of the most stunning and grandly appointed game lodges in Zimbabwe.

As the trip draws to a close we set off for one final adventure: A close encounter with the history and culture of Johannesburg at the Saxon Hotel, where Nelson Mandela edited his autobiography, Long Walk to Freedom. Here, relax over  a final tasting of the region’s famous wines and reflect on the incredible experience.
